Description
Our team's project for the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering is the Baja SAE. The University of San Diego's 2020 Baja SAE team consists of twelve driven mechanical engineering students. Despite the restrictions of COVID-19, our determined team will design, engineer, fabricate, test, and compete with an off-road vehicle in the 2021 SAE Collegiate Design Series.
Donations are applied to...
This year, the Torero Racing Team has some big plans. Our new design, dubbed "New Hotness", will be built from the ground up with fully upgraded components. Donations to this year’s team will be used to buy the material and parts necessary for building a new buggy, as well as covering the registration and travel fees needed to compete, if we are able to travel to the competition, depending on COVID safety protocol. We plan on building our frame from scratch, which will require lots of steel. In addition, we will be equipping the frame with a new braking system and drive train as well as upgraded suspension and onboard telemetry. These improvements are costly, but they will give our team a competitive advantage in the upcoming race.
We do not yet know if we will be allowed to compete in person, due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. We plan to gather outside in small numbers (wearing masks) to build the car regardless of whether the competition takes place in person or virtually. Students who are not in San Diego or are not able to meet in person will be assisting with the digital, technical presentations required by the competition.

Why are donations necessary?
As one of the few Capstone Senior Design Projects which is not industry partnered, we are responsible for raising the entirety of the funds necessary for this project. Additionally, we receive little to no funding from the University. We rely on the help and generosity of our peers, sponsors, and supporters like you in order for our project to be possible.
