To New Beginnings
Back in 2018, Brett Roenick had a vision to bring ice hockey to the University of San Diego with the goal of competing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). After partnering with the roller hockey club and converting them to the ice, the team played in UTC's men's league for two seasons before joining the ACHA. The team began ACHA play in the 2018-2019 and the following season went undefeated in conference play before the season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic, all club sports were unable to play and all of the ice hockey members went on to graduate, leaving USD without a hockey program. However, during the 2022-2023 academic year, three USD students, Peter Kilborn, Tristan Deetz, and Jon Montgomery met playing in a local men's league. The three all shared goals of reviving the program and eventually returning to the ACHA. With the guidance of Brett Roenick and the help of Campus Recreation staff, USD ice hockey was once again a club sport for the 2023-2024 season. The team had a successful season and participated UTC's men's league while playing scrimmages against UCSD. Now that the new program has a season under their belt, we will be joining the ACHA once again. The team will be participating in the West Coast Hockey Conference’s division 3 tier. The winner of this conference will receive an automatic berth to the ACHA national tournament, allowing USD hockey to be represented on the national stage for the first in program history. Your donation will help us achieve our goals and grow ice hockey in San Diego.
What will your donation fund?
We are in need of new jerseys, shells, and socks for the upcoming season. We have partnered with Verbero sports to help produce our jerseys. This equipment will be of the highest quality and will help the program for years to come. A mockup of the jerseys is included in the campaign media.
Thank you
Without your help we could not achieve our goals of returning to the ACHA. Please consider donating as we need your help to purchase these uniforms. Any donations over $100 will receive a USD jersey and puck (while supplies last.) All donations are tax deductible. If a donation is not feasible at the moment, please share our campaign details with anyone and everyone you think would be interested in supporting California hockey.
Why are donations necessary?
Due to the program's status as a club sport, all of our expenses are student-funded. This includes ice time, league fees, travel and hotel expenses, and more. Without your help, these uniform expenses would have to be included in the player dues for the upcoming season. To help keep hockey accessible for all USD students we are kindly asking for donations.
