Description

The core mission of EALLS is to provide USD School of Law students interested in employment and labor law with various opportunities to learn about and begin a career in the fields. These opportunities include education through attorney mentorship, networking events, and panel discussions. We established this scholarship to supplement those programs and to support students interested in social justice and public interest, specifically within the fields of employment and labor law.

More about this scholarship

The EALLS Social Justice in the Workplace Scholarship was the first University of San Diego, School of Law scholarship sponsored by a student organization. This scholarship was created from a desire to support members of our community who are passionate about social justice and public interest work in the employment and labor law fields. The scholarship will be awarded to students with a demonstrated interest in social justice and public interest work within the fields of employment and labor law. Any amount raised above our annual goal will be used for future scholarship recipients.

Personal Message

EALLS established this scholarship in 2019 and aimed to award the scholarship to students with dedicated commitment to social justice and serving underserved communities. The first scholarship EALLS awarded was to a 3L student who demonstrated strong advocacy for marginalized communities through public interest organizations and government entities. In 2020 and following the initial aftermath of COVID, EALLS fell short of our scholarship fundraising goal. Because EALLS’ scholarship aims to alleviate costs associated with preparing for the bar exam, we hope to strengthen our scholarship and surpass our goal to recognize dedicated and deserving students. We know we can accomplish this with your generous support.

Why are donations necessary?

Donations are an appreciated necessity, as many students who engage in social justice and public interest work have financial difficulty. Students in these fields face particular financial hardship given law school and bar exam expenses. These financial hardships often discourage students pursuing these fields from continuing to do so for economic necessity. EALLS strives to partially alleviate this burden by providing support for students who seek to make an impact and serve in these social justice and public interest affiliated areas. While the School of Law's competitive summer funding stipend allows students to partake in engaging public interest work, many students have expressed frustration at the financial difficulty presented by the high costs of bar exam expenses. This has, in some cases, dissuaded students who aspire to do public interest work from pursuing it for economic reasons. EALLS seeks to address this problem by establishing this scholarship and providing support to law students who seek to protect the legal rights or interests of inadequately represented groups.
