The University of San Diego School of Law is committed to providing all possible financial assistance to eligible students to help pursue and plan a legal education through a comprehensive financial aid program. Entering students are automatically considered for merit-based as well as need-based scholarships. In awarding scholarship assistance, the Admissions Committee focuses on students with academic merit or promise, and/or financial need. Financial aid awarded to School of Law students includes more than 350 scholarships and grants.
Scholarship support is always important given the ever-increasing competitive environment surrounding law school admissions, making the need greater than ever. More than 83% of students rely on scholarships to pursue a degree in law — following in the footsteps of alumni like you. Your gift toward current-use scholarships allow students to receive additional support immediately.
Your gift to scholarships:
- Funds the vast majority of privately funded scholarships — providing critical resources and unequivocal reassurance to law students — year after year.
- Helps students who are underrepresented in the legal profession.
Additionally, scholarship support provides essential resources necessary to recruit and retain highly qualified and diverse law school candidates.
The competition to recruit and retain qualified students has grown even more intense and increased scholarship support remains one of our top fundraising priorities. Offering competitive scholarships is essential to maintaining the quality, academic strength and diversity of our student body. Since 2013, the Dean’s Scholarship Initiative has raised more than $9M for law student scholarships, and the law school has increased the number of privately funded scholarships from 35 to 138. This scholarship support also means that students graduate with less debt, enabling them to pursue the legal careers of their choice.
