Description

The Alcalá Chapter of Mortar Board is celebrating its 20th Anniversary! Our USD chapter is part of the Mortar Board National Honor Society, which recognizes college seniors for distinguished achievements in scholarship, leadership, and service. We bring our diverse experiences from various backgrounds, areas, and organizations at USD and in the community, and together, we grow and are able to accomplish much more. We promote the joy of reading and mathematics, academic curiosity, and the pursuit of college. We share tips with first year students, honor our faculty through a Faculty Appreciation Event, and thank the university support staff for the important work they do. We run a Last Lecture Series where faculty share their wisdom as if it were their last lecture, and engage with, support, and learn from our Linda Vista Community.

Donations are applied to...

Our goal is to create an endowment in honor of the newly-re-named Judy Lewis Logue Alcalá Chapter of Mortar Board, to support our Linda Vista Initiative. Judy spent 55 years supporting students, so this endowment will include funding scholarships for Kearny High School students to attend USD, supplies for Carson Elementary school students, Kearny Senior High School events that encourage the pursuit of higher education, and other community engagement events. We need $50,000 to create an endowment.

Personal Message

Our chapter believes we can truly make a difference in our community. We appreciate your contribution to our Linda Vista Initiative in honor of the amazing Judy Lewis Logue and in support of future Mortar Boards!

Why are donations necessary?

Donations will be used to create an endowment in honor of Judy Lewis Logue to support our Linda Vista Initiative, which will include some scholarships for Kearny High School students to attend University of San Diego. Through the Linda Vista Initiative, we engage with students from our neighboring K-12 schools in the Linda Vista Community. Some examples of engagement include: creating and exploring activities with students and their families during Family STEAM Night/Day and Halloween Hoopla, supporting essay writing, providing materials to students, and awarding scholarships to college-bound seniors from Kearny High School.
