Description
Our team's project for the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering is the Baja SAE. The University of San Diego's 2020 Baja SAE team consists of five diverse, driven, mechanical engineering students. This year's team has the greatest ratio of female to male engineers that the program has ever seen, and a much greater ratio than most competitors. For the fourth year in a row, our determined team will design, engineer, fabricate, test, and compete with an off-road vehicle in the 2020 SAE Collegiate Design Series. This year’s team is much smaller than in years past, which has proved challenging in terms of both the workload of the project, and also in raising necessary funds. We hope to be able to modify and improve the vehicle so that it is not only competition ready, but competition “ready-to-win.” And, we need your help.
Donations are applied to...
Donations to this year’s team will primarily be dedicated to parts for the car, and competition related registration and travel fees. The most costly and consequently the most impactful components to improve the performance of the car are the transmission and CVT. For the transmission, the team will be fabricating and installing a custom transmission which will significantly reduce the weight of the car. The gearbox has already been fully designed by a previous team member, but with your help we will be able to bring this design to fruition. The team also aims to purchase and install a GAGED CVT which will also reduce weight and improve the final gear ratio of our car. With these two components, we will be able to reach much greater top speeds, thus being able to match, or beat, the top performing competitors of years past.
Personal Message
Thank you for supporting Baja SAE at the University of San Diego! On behalf of our team, we cannot emphasize enough how much your support means to us. Without you, our project would not be possible! We are so grateful for you believing in this project as much as we do - Mira, Valeriya, Sam, Zeke, and Aaron.
Why are donations necessary?
As one of the few Capstone Senior Design Projects which is not industry partnered, we are responsible for raising the entirety of the funds necessary for this project. Additionally, we receive little to no funding from the University. We rely on the help and generosity of our peers, sponsors, and supporters like you in order for our project to be possible.
